Northern Italy, lands to explore at a slow pace at BIT 2023

Not just mountains, lakes or shopping: northern Italy also unveils routes and experiences to be lived while taking time and immersing in nature that is in parts still unspoiled.

From the Alpine valleys shared with France to the karst valleys on the border with Slovenia, with all its diverse offerings Northern Italy is a dream for those seeking a slow-paced, outdoor, nature-filled vacation.

The Northwest amidst sea, mountains and rice fields

Piedmont will be presented at BIT 2023 - at the Allianz MiCo in Milan from Sunday, February 12 to Tuesday, February 14 - with 20 thousand kilometers of hiking and biking trails, two National Parks (Gran Paradiso and Val Grande), 95 protected areas and three UNESCO Biosphere Reserves: from the Alps of Turin and Cuneo to the rice-field expanses of Biella, Novara and Vercelli, from Lake Maggiore and Orta to the hills of Monferrato Astigiano and Alessandria, the natural environments of Piedmont offer unforgettable experiences to those who opt for a leisurely pace.

And there is no shortage of opportunities on the nearby Riviera either. Liguria is ideal for experiencing slow tourism: the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, Sentiero Liguria, 342 kilometers of coastline and thousands of kilometers of paths to be traveled on foot or by bicycle are just some of the examples of the offerings for those who want to spend an open-air vacation”, comments Matteo Garnero, Director General of the InLiguria Regional Agency for Tourism Promotion.

Northeast dedicated to biodiversity and walking trails

From the Ligurian Riviera to the Adriatic Riviera: there are as many as 14 hiking trails in Emilia Romagna and as many nature parks. You can go birdwatching in the unique biodiversity setting of the Po Delta Park, for example. Or, for those with a more “active” vacation in mind, experience the outdoors while biking on one of four cycling routes in Romagna.

Moving east, we end on a high note in Veneto where we can ethically and sustainably enjoy the mountains in winter: including romantic snowshoeing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and slow skiing in the magical landscapes of the Dolomites. And all around the world's most beautiful mountains declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites and unique views such as Cortina and the Ampezzo Valley, Agordino and Valdi Zoldo, the Three Peaks of Lavaredo and Cadore.
