A great return, if not exactly a new exhibitor: ITA Airways has chosen BIT 2023 - at Allianz MiCo in Milan from Sunday 12 to Tuesday 14 February - to present its upcoming operations and much more during a still top-secret event. The past few months have already seen a number of new destinations added by the new company, for which a change in corporate structure is being decided these very days.

Among these new routes towards some of the most attractive international destinations, both for business and vacation, stands out Rio de Janeiro, with a new daily connection operating from Rome Fiumicino with Airbus A330 planes from 29 October 2023 to 30 March 2024. From the Brazilian metropolis, daily departures will be active from 30 October 2023 to 29 March 2024: another reason to visit the beautiful Brazil.

Also of great interest are the new connections to the US. From Fiumicino it will be possible to fly to San Francisco on Airbus A350, the airline's flagship, from 1 to 30 July 2023, with three weekly flights every Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday. Still from Rome, the Airbus A330 will set off to Washington, guaranteeing five weekly flights from the 1st of July and daily flights from 1 August to 28 October 2023. ITA is also increasing its existing connections to India by adding four new weekly flights during the first two weeks of March and from April to May 2023 for the Rome-New Delhi direct flight.

Lots of attendance for a recovering industry

It’s fair to say that ITA is in good 'company' here at BIT 2023. Many carriers chose the Milanese event to present their strategies for 2023. Just to give a few examples, Rome Fiumicino stands out among Air India's more than 70 international and 100 domestic connections, while Taiwan's Eva Air offers flights from Milan Malpensa to Taipei and connections to Tokyo, Osaka and other destinations in the Far East. Moreover, Fly Dubai uses the Gulf hub to take Italians to Pattaya, Malé and many other Asian destinations. For 2023, Air Europa confirms the reactivation of all pre-pandemic routes, while new features include the expansion of the fleet, which will be enriched with new aircraft, such as latest-generation 787-900 Dreamliner and 737-800 Max.

Last but not least, railways have long been complementary to air, that’s why BIT 2023 will see the presence of Trenitalia, with its network of high-speed lines considered among the best in the world, and Trenord, which is engaged in a process of strong renewal of regional transport in Lombardy.

The fact that the desire to fly, and to fly in style, is coming back in a big way is also confirmed by data from Sea Prime, the operator of Linate and Malpensa VIP airport infrastructures (terminals, hangars, lounges, meeting rooms and parking lots). Through the Milan Prime brand, SEA recorded a +20% in 2022 for both airports: figures that are higher than European average (12.3%). In absolute values, last year were counted 32 thousand business flights, a higher number even with respect to the pre-pandemic period, with as much as a third more (+33%) compared to 2019.
